Scannell boosts UK team with four senior hires

Scannell Properties, the real estate development and investment company specialising in large-scale industrial and logistics projects, has appointed four senior hires to its UK business: Phil Sutton, Darren Cheeseman, Simon Borthwick and David Pither.

Phil Sutton and Darren Cheeseman join from Kier Property where they worked as Head of Trade and Logistics and Development Director respectively.  Phil Sutton, who was also part of Kier Property’s senior leadership team, will take on the role of Scannell’s Managing Director UK.  Darren Cheeseman, who has spent the last two decades working in the industrial and logistics sector as both a developer and an agent, will become UK Development Director.

Also joining as UK Development Director is Simon Borthwick, a construction, programme and project manager with over 30 years’ experience, the last ten working at the John Lewis Partnership where he had responsibility for the construction of its new logistics network.

David Pither completes the team joining as Construction Manager from Gleave where he was a Senior Project/Construction Manager.  David has a strong track record working alongside some of the UK’s largest supermarkets and online retailers.

The UK team, which already includes Senior Director Chris Davies and Counsel Ben Cavender, will report to Nick Deeks, Managing Director, Scannell International and will develop a mix of build-to-suit and speculative sustainable logistics and industrial properties across the UK.

Commenting on the new hires, Nick Deeks said:

“With Phil, Darren, Simon and David, we have brought together a team that has a huge amount of experience and knowledge of all aspects of logistics development; from land acquisition to design and construction.  They know the sector intimately and there are few out there who have such insight into what today’s occupiers need.  I am delighted to welcome them all to the business where I expect we will achieve great things.”

Phil Sutton, UK Managing Director added:

“There is no denying that the UK logistics market is growing at an exponential rate and, with the impact of both Brexit and the Covid pandemic on the sector, the need for more high-tech and sustainable development has never been so pronounced.

“Scannell’s agility and financial strength mean we are able to fund and develop projects at pace.  This was one of the main attractions for joining Scannell and one that we believe will be of huge benefit to our clients.  We are all delighted to join the business at such a strategic time as it continues its expansion across the UK and Europe.”
