Scannell Properties, the U.S and European real estate development and investment company which specializes in large-scale industrial and logistics projects, is developing a logistics property in Saxony-Anhalt for the online retail company Amazon.

The logistics center for last-mile distribution is being built in Teutschenthal near Halle (Saale). It is a build-to-suit development with approximately 4,600 sqm of warehousing space and 1,900 sqm of office and social space. The site is located in the industrial park of the municipality Teutschenthal, around 15 minutes’ drive-time to the major city of Halle (Saale).

The earthworks began in January 2021 and construction work will follow from mid-February. Completion and commissioning are scheduled for autumn 2021.

The real estate developer places particular value on delivering building designs which will offer maximum operational flexibility for Amazon's future needs. The construction project includes extensive measures to ensure that the property is operated in the most environmentally-friendly and low-emission manner possible. Scannell Properties is aiming for Gold certification according to the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), and the roof of the facility will also feature a photovoltaic system.

Commenting on the development, Robert Viegers, vice president of Amazon Logistics in Germany, said, "We are very pleased to open a distribution center in Teutschenthal that incorporates more than 20 years of logistics expertise, technological progress and investment in transportation infrastructure. As a result, Amazon customers will benefit from faster and more flexible delivery options."

The mayor, Tilo Eigendorf, is particularly pleased about the settlement of the e-commerce company: "It is a meaningful sign for our city and the region that a company like Amazon is settling here. The establishment of the logistics unit represents a milestone in the commercial development of our community."

Heiko Richter, Managing Director Germany of Scannell Properties, emphasizes the successful cooperation between all parties: "As an international developer for commercial and logistics real estate, it is our goal to provide our international customers the space they require for expansion in Europe. This project benefits both the domestic economy as well as the labor market. In this project, we have succeeded in bringing together the requirements of all parties involved in a mutually agreeable manner. My thanks go in particular to the authorities and all partners who have made this possible."
